Inhibiting the Jagged 1 protein in mice prevents the proliferation and growth of colon and rectal tumors. What is more, this approach to the disease permits the removal of existing tumors.

Researchers of the Universitat Politècnica de València and the Universidad de Granada, together with doctors from the Hospital Clínic Universitari de València are working on the development of a new system to help diagnose prostate cancer. The work being developed is part of the SICAP project.

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) increases the risk of subsequent sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among adolescent and young adult populations by about three times, reports a study published in the January 2018 issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (JAACAP).

The authors also found that short- and long-term use of ADHD medication reduced the risk of subsequent STIs among men by 30% and 41%, respectively.

Three-dimensional visualization based on computer tomography imaging provides more thorough preparation for the diagnosis of lung diseases. Now the program passes the clinical testing stage. It has been already used to perform 25 transbronchial biopsies, the accuracy of the procedure has increased from 53% to 88%. The results of the research of UrFU scientists and the specialists of the Ural Scientific Research Institute of Phthisiopulmonology have been published in the European Respiratory Journal.
